Amesbury backs West Newbury flood resilience grant

Lakes and Waterways Commission · Meeting of April 20, 2023

AMESBURY — Lakes commission backs West Newbury flood resilience study. The Amesbury Lakes and Waterways Commission unanimously authorized Acting Chair Tom Murphy to draft a letter of support for West Newbury's Municipal Vulnerability Preparedness Action Grant, which would fund evaluation of Merrimack River flood and sea level rise vulnerabilities at River Road. The motion was moved by Cindy Roberts and seconded by Art O'Dea.

The commission noted that Amesbury has previously secured MVP funding and that upstream resilience efforts benefit local preparedness. In other business, Michael Ebert reported that a dock Notice of Intent for Lake Attitash was approved, while an ongoing matter involves demolition and replacement of a home at 48 Lake Attitash Road within the 100-foot buffer zone.
