Amesbury Zoning Board approved two applications and continued a complex commercial use appeal. The board unanimously approved a variance for Deirdre Casey to build a 330-square-foot aging-in-place addition at 9 Sanborn Terrace, finding substantial hardship from lot shape and existing utilities. The board also unanimously approved a special permit for Karin Tremblay to operate a low-volume home-based massage therapy business at 40 Merrimac Street, with 4 to 8 clients weekly.
The board voted 4-1 to continue a dispute over commercial use at 102 Friend Street to October 22, after abutters challenged the Building Commissioner's determination that garage operations constitute a protected pre-existing nonconforming use.
