City Council approves accessory dwelling unit zoning amendment, 14 National Grid pole permits.

Amesbury City Council unanimously expands housing options with new accessory dwelling unit zoning. The amended ordinance (2026-068), revising Section XI.K.3, increases permitted ADU size to 900 square feet, allows ADUs in multi-family structures and outside residential districts, and removes owner-occupancy requirements, bringing the city into compliance with state law. The council also approved 14 National Grid utility permits across the city for poles and underground conduits designed to improve reliability and reduce outages, with all work subject to Department of Public Works stipulations.
Three mayoral appointments were unanimously confirmed: Jay Williamson to the Community Preservation Committee (reappointment), Craige Hird as the Open Space representative to that committee, and Greg Noyes as the School Committee representative to the Energy, Environmental and Sustainability Committee.
