Committee Plans Trail Stewardship Framework for Volunteers

Committee discussed trail stewardship plan and agreed to protect Battis Farm during bird nesting season.

Open Space, Natural Resources, and Trails Committee · Meeting of June 24, 2026

AMESBURY — Committee discussed trail stewardship plan and agreed to protect Battis Farm during bird nesting season. Chair Jonathan Sherwood presented the town-wide framework, developed with artificial intelligence assistance to synthesize state trail standards and coordinate volunteer maintenance with city resources. The Committee scheduled the draft for review July 22.

City staff will also advocate for Conservation Commission adoption of a mowing management plan, and the Committee identified Batchelder Park as a candidate for an accessible trail, noting it would require dedicated parking and considering a Community Preservation Act application for planning costs.
