AMESBURY — City Council authorizes National Grid underground conduit project as part of substation upgrade. At a special August 5 meeting, President Jessica Redfern and five council members unanimously approved bill 2026-123 for underground conduits on Sparhawk and Main streets. National Grid said the upgrade may prevent future outages like the one experienced in July, but potential disruptions could occur during the final switchover in year two.
The utility plans to relocate the substation to Hillside Avenue and convert the current site to green space.
