AMESBURY — Joint Education Committee establishes structured city-schools partnership under new rules. The committee unanimously elected Councilor Maryann Welch as lead City Council representative and Dr. Abigail Jurist Levy as lead School Committee member, who will collaborate with Superintendent Elizabeth McAndrews to coordinate quarterly meetings and agendas.
Superintendent McAndrews reported the budget gap has narrowed to approximately $1.5 million; the mayor confirmed $413,000 in initial support, which the Superintendent increased to $615,600 after further input. The committee heard that maintaining the Amesbury Integrated High School in its current location would prevent disruption and costly out-of-district placements, and a rent reduction from $120,000 to $108,000 was secured.
