AMESBURY — Library Board of Trustees votes to close Saturday, June 20, citing budget strain. The six-member board unanimously approved the closure following Juneteenth, when union staff are entitled to the holiday off; opening the following Saturday would require volunteers and risk exhausting the already-overspent salary line. Director Aimie Westphal reported 5,530 library visitors in March, up 1,500 from February, and the FY27 budget will operate at current staffing after elimination of a two-hour Administrative Assistant position.
The board advanced its long-range strategic planning with three public community meetings scheduled for April 15, May 4, and May 7.
