Library Board defers preservation grant to next year
Library Board of Trustees · Meeting of March 4, 2026
Amesbury Library Board postpones major preservation grant application. APL Director Aimie Westphal requested deferral of the Massachusetts Preservation Project Grant, available to the library's National Register-listed building, citing unavailable matching funds and pending architectural work. The board voted to submit the application in 2027 instead, saving $5,000 to $8,000 in fees and allowing School Street property proceeds to cover the up-to-$100,000 match.
The board also maintained its level-funded FY27 budget request, preserving an 18-hour staffing position and part-time administrative assistant despite the Mayor's freeze directive.
