City Council · Meeting of January 13, 2026

Amesbury City Council elects Jessica Redfern as President in contested vote. Redfern prevailed 7-2 over Councilor Steve Stanganelli in a roll call election conducted by City Clerk Jennifer Smith immediately after the January 13 inauguration ceremony. The Council unanimously elected Councilor Amanda Haggstrom as Vice President.

The body also unanimously approved the City Council Fifteenth Session Rules and Procedures and accepted the 2026 and 2027 meeting schedules. President Redfern declared vacancies on the School Committee due to Councilor Maryann Welch's resignation and on the Library Board of Trustees due to a failure to elect at the November 2025 election; a 30-day call for candidates to the Library Board will be posted on the city website.
