City Council Standing Committee of the Whole · Meeting of September 15, 2026

AMESBURY — The City Council Standing Committee of the Whole forwarded a $30,000 traffic calming appropriation to the full Council on a 5-2 vote. Sponsored by Mayor Kassandra Gove and Councilor Pamela Gilday, Order 2026-133 would fund traffic calming tools like speed radar feedback signs, center line signs, and temporary speed humps in densely populated residential neighborhoods. Councilors Pamela Redfern and Amanda Haggstrom opposed the forward, citing lack of information about where tools would be installed.

The committee also unanimously advanced three other orders: a dog licensing fee waiver for residents aged 70 and older (2026-129), a $25,000 grant for Council on Aging kitchen improvements (2026-130), and approval of prior-year invoices from the FY27 budget (2026-131). The committee continued discussion of a City Clerk Salary Ordinance to its next meeting pending legal guidance.
