Amesbury Parent Warns School Committee of Mask Noncompliance Campaign at August Meeting

AMESBURY — August 18, 2021 — An Amesbury parent threatened the School Committee at its August 18 meeting over the district's mask requirement, warning members she would work to publicly expose personal information about them and that a growing parent group would refuse to comply with school masking rules. Jessica Pereira, of 283 Elm Street, told the board she leads a group holding biweekly meetings that gained 30 followers in two days and said, "We will not comply" if masks are enforced in schools this fall. She warned that daily non-compliance would become expensive for the district and directed committee members toward their upcoming re-election contests, noting their political opposition. No votes were taken in the recorded portion of the meeting.
